Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh recorded 28.15 per cent voter turnout till 11 am in the second phase of polling for six parliamentary seats in the state, according to the data released by the Election Commission of India.
The polling for the six parliamentary seats -Tikamgarh (SC), Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa and Hoshangabad began on Friday at 7 am in the state.
Of these, Hoshangabad is leading the voter turnout charts with 32.40 per cent voting followed by Satna 30.32 per cent, Khajuraho 28.14 per cent, Tikamgarh 26.96 per cent, Damoh 26.84 per cent, and Rewa 24.46 per cent till 11 am in the state.
Earlier in the first phase of voting on April 19, the state recorded 30.46 per cent voting till 11 am and the final voter turnout stood at 67.08 per cent.
Six parliamentary seats--Sidhi, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Mandla, Balaghat and Chhindwara--went to the polls in the first phase on April 19.
Of these six seats that went to polls on April 19, Chhindwara topped the charts in terms of voter turnout with 79.18 per cent, followed by Balaghat at 73.18 per cent, Mandla at 72.49 per cent, Shahdol at 63.73 per cent, Jabalpur at 60.52 per cent and Sidhi at 55.19 per cent in the first phase.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav requested the public to exercise their franchise for building a bright future for the country.
"Voters are the most important in the elections, the festival of democracy. In the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, voting is being held today in six Lok Sabha constituencies - Satna, Rewa, Khajuraho, Tikamgarh, Damoh and Hoshangabad in the state.
It is a humble request to all respected voters that by using the right to vote, you must discharge your responsibilities in building a bright future for the country," CM Yadav wrote on X.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan also appealed to voters to cast their votes in the second phase of LS polls in the state.
"Today, polling is being held at six parliamentary seats in the state. On this occasion, I request the voters to cast their votes in their respective polling stations in the state. It is a big responsibility in democracy for us to exercise the franchise. Today, is the time when we discharge this responsibility," Rajan.
Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh are being conducted in four phases. The first phase of polling was held on April 19. The next two phases will be conducted on May 7 and May 13. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
Madhya Pradesh has a total of 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, making it the sixth-largest state in terms of parliamentary representation. Out of these, 10 seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates, while the remaining 19 are unreserved.
