Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week to be celebrated from 18th to 24th January 2023

CHANDIGARH: In order to bring visibility and create awareness on valuing of girl child, the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India has proposed to celebrate “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week” from 18th to 24th January 2023 to mark National Girl Child Day (i.e. 24th January).

 

In this context, all the departments/ units / boards / institutions etc. under the control of Chandigarh Administration have observed oath to save, protect and educate the girl child on 18.01.2023. Celebrations were also held with female inmates of Model Jail to celebrate National Girl Child Day 2023 and various awareness programmes are also organized in schools & Anganwadis. Various activities will be conducted by different departments of Chandigarh Administration to promote the theme of Beti Bachao, BetiPadhao Scheme in a campaign mode while creating awareness and sensitizing people about value of girl child. Thus making this campaign a Jan Bhagidaari. 

 

Key Stakeholders include departments namely  Social Welfare and all allied units (WCHL-181, Sakhi- One Stop Centre, Hub for Empowerment of Women, Integrated Child Development Services, Poshan Abhiyaan, Corporations etc.), Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, School Education, Higher Education,  Technical Education, Health Services, Police, State Legal Services Authority, UTCPS, Sports etc. At Anganwadi level, various activities will be conducted which will include Awareness programmes to promote rights of women & children, Mahila meetings with ANMs/ Doctors & Anganwadi Workers, Sticker Pasting drive on Government buildings & premises etc.

 

Empowerment Camps will be organized at Anganwadi level in convergence with department of Posts, Chandigarh Circle to promote Sukanya Samridhi Yojna and open accounts of girls below the age of 10 years. Career guidance and Counseling Sessions will be conducted for girls of Government Schools by departments of Technical Education, Social Welfare and School Education, Tree Plantation drives will be conducted at school level, in Anganwadi Centres and by Municipal Corporation at different locations of Chandigarh as a mark to save & protect Girl Child. Talk Shows, Community meetings, Posters/ Slogan-writing/ Drawing/ Wall Painting/ Sports competitions will be held to ensure Community Mobilization. 

 

On 24th January 2023, a closing ceremony will be held by felicitating the resident girls of Snehalaya for Girls (Ashiana), Sector 15, Chandigarh.
