SAS Nagar: Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has become the third district (after Bathinda and Sangrur) to enter the green zone under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin)-2.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar, Ashika Jain while applauding the dedicated team working under the leadership of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Amit Bamby for this achievement said that 85 such villages in the district constitute 25 percent of the total number of villages, had met the target before the scheduled deadline.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Amit Bamby said that these villages have attained the ODF Plus status by managing dry and wet waste and plastic waste.
He said that after the inclusion of District SAS Nagar in the green zone under ODF Plus by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, the departmental teams have become more enthusiastic to complete the next phase of this mission.
Congratulating the stakeholders, ADC (D) said that Rural Development and Panchayat and Water Supply and Sanitation Departments and gram panchayats of the 85 villages have worked diligently to qualify in the green zone.
He said that the deadline for completion of the work in the 85 villages selected for the first phase was fixed to June 30 but the stakeholders worked tirelessly to achieve the target before the deadline, on June 19. Even 30 screening chambers in 30 villages completed merely in four weeks, he added.
He added that the work in the rest of the 75 percent villages is also in progress and they too, would be brought under the ODF (Open Defecation Free) Plus status before the set target.
He further exhorted the gram panchayats of the villages where work in progress to contribute voluntarily with efforts of the District Administration to keep them clean and green.
