Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Karnal Jasbir visited Nari Niketan Karnal on Thursday to inquire about the facilities being provided there. At present there are 55 women in Nari Niketan and 2 Sawansis in One Stop Centre. On this occasion the CJM also interacted with the women/residents and made them aware about their rights under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. He also directed the Superintendent of Nari Niketan to establish/display information about legal rights, so that the women/residents could be made aware of their legal rights as prescribed under the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 and the rules and regulations.
The superintendent was specifically apprised about the various legal aid schemes to those women/residents and the procedure to avail such services etc. They were also apprised about the existence of the Women/Resident Justice Act and the rules made thereunder and the existence of committees constituted under the Welfare of Women/Residents. She was also apprised about the functioning of District Legal Services Authority, Karnal.
The superintendent was directed to maintain cleanliness around the Nari Niketan and the inspection house. A cultural programme was organised by the residents of Nari Niketan so that they could get over their mental stress during their stay in Nari Niketan. District Child Protection Reena Kadian was also present on the occasion. The superintendent was directed to organise cultural, devotional programmes,yoga classes from time to time for the prisoners so that they could improve their skills.
