Roopnagar: Punjab Plastic Waste Management Society (PPWMS) organized two awareness programmes in Roopnagar in Government Senior Secondary School for Boys and Municipal Council, Rupnagar, Punjab on Plastic Waste Collection, Segregation and Management.
During these awareness programmes all 11th and 12th class school children were given awareness on source segregation, stopping use of SUPs, adopting Mission LiFE. Smt. Jaswinder Kaur, Principal, GSSS for Boys supported this initiative, and more than 55 students and teachers participated in the event.
Another awareness programme on the issue was organized for Municipal Council, Roopnagar where Sh. Manjeet Singh, EO, Roopnagar, Sh. Sanjay Verma, President, MC, Patiala, Sh. Pankaj Kumar, Sanitary Inspector and Smt. Poonam Begra, Community Facilitator participated in the programme, and provided awareness on the issues of waste segregation and its significance. More than 60 waste collectors were distributed safety kits for their safety and hygiene during waste collection.
Sh. Ayush Angrulia, participated in both the events and provided awareness to the participants regarding their practical experience in the field of pollution management. Dr. Reena Chadha, General Manager, IPCA provided awareness regarding the plastic waste issues, safety and hygiene of waste workers and distributed free safety kits to all waste collectors along with Council President and the officers of Council.
Sh. Prabhakar Mishra, Chairman, PPWMS informed that these seminars and activities are being organized regularly for all stakeholders, at all levels of society, including residents, college/ school students, waste workers, help maids and officials. This will ensure a sustainable action by all masses, towards management of plastic waste, while ensuring their health/ sanitation during waste collection, as saviors of environment.
