Justice Puri inaugurates training courses at Ferozepur jail to empower inmates through skill development

Ferozepur : To empower the jail inmates at Ferozepur Central jail and to give them a new lease on life on release, Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh-cum-Managing Judge, Sessions Division, Ferozepur today visited the Central Jail and inaugurated the training course for the prisoners in the jail, started in collaboration with PNB.

On this occasion, Virinder Agarwal, District and Sessions Judge including Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Rajesh Dhiman, Deputy Commissioner, Soumya Mishra, SSP, Ekta Uppal, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, , Satnam Singh, Jail Superintendent, Rajdeep Singh Brar, Additional Superintendent, Central Jail, and other jail officers and staff were also present.


These programmes aim at training prison inmates so that once they come out of prison, they have relevant skills to find apt jobs. The inmates are trained in various sectors: stitching, plumbing, electrician, computer etc. to ensure rehabilitation and re-entry into society of people who are imprisoned. The initiative will help in providing skill training to the offenders to avert them from committing criminal and fraudulent acts while promoting skill development in prisons to facilitate their reintegration into society.

Ekta Uppal, CJM said that this course is being started for the jail prisoners in collaboration with Punjab National Bank Rural Self-Employment Training Institute, Zira, which is being conducted by Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Senior Facility, Sukhwinder Kaur, Ladies Tailor Trainer and Jaswinder Singh, Plumber Trainer were present.

Today, two courses were inaugurated by Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri ji, out of which a stitching course for women and a plumber course for men are being started. Suits were also provided to the prisoners who had to undergo courses. It was said that such courses have been conducted earlier also at different times so that the skills of the jail inmates can be improved and they can run their own businesses after being released from jail.
