Alumni reconnect and reflect on University days at Nauni varsity

SHIMLA: A gathering of former students of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni witnessed a heartwarming reunion during the recently organized Alumni Meet at the university campus. The event brought together alumni from different batches eager to relive the cherished memories of their university days.

 

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman of the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission. Vinay Kumar, DDG and Director International Cooperation at the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education and Devender Aaasi, MD of Omniflowers Canada were the Guests of Honour. Notable attendees included several Indian Forest Services officers, administrators from various government and public enterprises, progressive farmers and entrepreneurs. The event saw the participation of Ram Lal Sharma, a 1971 batch pass out of the College of Agriculture Solan, who was the oldest alumni present in this meet. Dr. Raj Kumar Thakur, President of the UHF Alumni Association, warmly welcomed participants from across the country and abroad who had gathered at Nauni for this memorable event.

 

During his address, Dr. Nand Lal Sharma reminisced about his university days and encouraged alumni to contribute to the Alumni Corpus Fund established by the Association, emphasizing its role in the university's development. He urged alumni to share their experiences with current students, fostering mentorship and skill enhancement discussions. Dr. Nand Lal Sharma and Devinder Aasi both made contributions of Rs 1 lakh to the corpus fund and were joined by other generous contributors. Expressing gratitude, Vice Chancellor Dr. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel acknowledged the importance of alumni in shaping the institution's future. He emphasized the need to strengthen the connection between former and current students, advocating for regular alumni meetings.

 


The occasion also marked the election of the new executive body of the Alumni Association, with Dr. Harish Sharma chosen as the President, Ajay Rana and Dr. Neerja Singh Rana as Vice Presidents, and Dr. Anil Handa as the Secretary. A souvenir and student magazine were unveiled during the event, complemented by a cultural programme organized by the 'Srijan Arts Club’, adding a vibrant touch to the Alumni Meet.
