Chandigarh:Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 19 km long Haryana section of the 8-lane Dwarka Expressway in a national-level function held at Gurugram.
Notably, an important part of the 60,000 crore Delhi de-congestion plan, India’s First Elevated Urban Expressway is designed to ease congestion on existing NH-48 and provide smoother traffic flow between Delhi and Gurugram.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 114 National Highway Projects for different States worth about One Lakh crores. Haryana Governor, Bandaru Dattaratya, Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways, Sh. Nitin Gadkari, Ministers, Member of Parliaments, and MLAs also remained present on this occasion. Sh. Manohar Lal expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving a development bonanza to Haryana state as well as other states of the country.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the inauguration and foundation laying of development projects provided by the Prime Minister.
Haryana gets four major development projects
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Shamli-Ambala National Highway (Package 1, 2, and 3) costing Rs. 4890 crore, which will span 43 kilometers. Additionally, he also laid the foundation stone of Bhiwani-Hansi Road (including four bypasses and widening and strengthening), costing Rs. 1330 crore. Furthermore, he inaugurated two projects of Dwarka Expressway (Package 3 and 4) costing Rs. 4087 crore.
Dwarka Expressway is a part of India’s First Elevated road
The 10.2 km long package-III of the 8-lane access control Dwarka Expressway connects the Delhi-Haryana border to Basai in Haryana. This package has 8.6 km of elevated section with a width of 34 meters and is a part of India’s first eight-lane elevated road constructed on ‘single pier’. In addition to the 8-lane main carriageway, the width of the service road varies from 4 lanes to 14 lanes in this package.
The expressway also features traffic signal-free lanes, four vehicular underpasses, and an elevated service road at five major junctions, providing uninterrupted traffic movement.In addition, 12 subways, footpaths, and cycle tracks have been provided on both sides for the convenience of pedestrians.
One entry/ exit point has been provided for local traffic on the expressway. A drainage facility along with rainwater harvesting and groundwater re-charge has also been provided on the entire stretch.
Package-IV connects Basai to Kherki Daula cloverleaf interchange
The 8.7 km long package IV of the 8-lane Dwarka Expressway connects Basai to Kherki Daula cloverleaf interchange. This package has 3.7 km of elevated section with a width of 34 meters and is a part of India’s first eight-lane elevated road constructed on ‘single pier’.
The width of the service road varies from 4 lanes to 10 lanes. The section also features one of the widest railway-over-bridge in India with 16 lanes as well as one of the longest ‘Bow Spring Steel Bridge’ of 125-metre length. The Clover leaf interchange at Kherki Daula is among the largest in the country with more than two km circumferential length.
The Cloverleaf provides seamless connectivity in all directions with the existing Delhi-Jaipur Highway on NH-48. All roads are traffic signal free and three vehicular underpasses have been provided for uninterrupted traffic movement.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated various National Highway projects across the country.
Major projects that were inaugurated included the 9.6 km long six-lane Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)- Package 3 from Nangloi - Najafgarh Road to Sector 24 Dwarka section in Delhi, three packages of Lucknow Ring Road developed at cost of Rs. 4,600 crores in Uttar Pradesh, Anandapuram – Pendurthi – Anakapalli section of NH16 developed at a cost of Rs. 2,950 crores in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Kiratpur to Nerchowk section of NH-21 (2 packages) worth Rs. 3,400 in Himachal Pradesh, Dobaspet – Heskote section (two packages) worth Rs. 2,750 crores in Karnataka, along with 42 other projects worth Rs. 20,500 crores in different states across the country.
PM lays foundation stone for various National Highway projects across the country
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for various National Highway projects across the country. The projects included 14 packages of Bengaluru – Kadappa – Vijayawada Expressway worth Rs. 14,000 crores in Andhra Pradesh, six packages of Belgaum – Hungund – Raichur Section of NH-748A worth Rs. 8,000 crores in Karnataka, three packages of Shamli – Ambala Highway worth Rs. 4,900 crores in Haryana, two packages of Amritsar - Bathinda corridor worth Rs. 3,800 crores in Punjab, along with 39 other projects worth Rs. 32,700 crores in different states across the country.
These projects will significantly contribute towards the growth of the National Highway network as well as help in boosting socio-economic growth, enhance job opportunities, and promote trade and commerce in regions across the country.
