Jalandhar : The Congress party has ramped up its activities in preparation for the upcoming bye-election for the Jalandhar West Assembly seat, scheduled for July 10. In light of this, a meeting has been convened today to discuss the election strategy.
Pargat Singh, a senior Congress leader, expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the potential appointment of Ravneet Bittu as a Cabinet Minister. Singh emphasized that leaders who have switched parties during previous elections have started to be rejected by the public. He stressed the need for significant improvements within the party and stated that today's meeting would address these issues. Singh advocated for fielding only honest and upright candidates in the election.
He also highlighted the urgent need to address various issues such as drug abuse and illegal gambling. With the reimplementation of the Model Code of Conduct, Singh urged the public to avoid engaging with leaders who have defected to other parties.
Regarding the controversy involving actress Kangana Ranaut, Singh advised political leaders to speak thoughtfully. He criticized the endorsement of Chief Minister Mann's statements by BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia, suggesting that only wise individuals agree with such views. Singh cautioned that inflammatory comments like those from Ranaut could deteriorate the state's atmosphere.
On the recent terrorist attack on a bus in Jammu, Singh mentioned that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting an investigation. He also criticized the BJP, stating that the party's outlook does not align with Punjab's interests.
Addressing Ravneet Bittu, Singh remarked that appointing a leader who does not speak for Punjab's interests as a Cabinet Minister is detrimental to the state. He also condemned Shital Angural's recent outburst on social media, asserting that individuals with such behaviour should not be in politics. The Congress meeting today aims to address these concerns and strategize for the upcoming by-election.
