Mohali Police Busts Car Snatching Gang; 4 held with two Stolen Cars, Mobiles

SAS Nagar: In a significant breakthrough, the Mohali Police have arrested four-membered car snatching gang which were using a fake ID on the in-drive app to snatch cars. The police have successfully recovered two snatched cars and mobile phones from the accused persons.

 

Divulging the details, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr Sandeep Garg said that the district Police registered two FIRs in Sohana Police Station on June 22 and 24, 2024, in which the Modus Operandi of committing snatching of cars was the same. Both drivers said that they got a booking on the in-drive app and when they were midway, the rear passengers stopped the car and snatched their mobile phones and cash.

 

In the first instance of snatching, on the midnight of 21/22-06-2024, Sarvan Kumar son of Ashok Kumar resident of City Amroh, District Amroha, U.P., currently residing at Jandpur, who runs taxi number PB 01-B-8443, was standing in front of CP 67 Mall where he got booking of a ride to village Bathlana through the InDrive app. He boarded Four unknown persons near the mall. When he went to the given location village Bathlana and reached Sector-104 Municipal Height Mohali, a person sitting on the back seat of the car grabbed him by the neck and the person sitting on the conductor seat pointed a sharp-edged weapon at him. After stopping the car, they took away his mobile phone, cash and car. In this regard, an FIR No. 204 dated 22-06-2024 u/s 379B of IPC was registered at Police Station Sohana against the unidentified accused.

 

Thereafter Naveen Kumar son of Jai Bhagwan, resident of Village Degana, Police Station Julana, District Jind, currently residing at Naya Gayon, who runs a taxi, Aura Hyundai (temporary number TO624HR0829AR), which is in the name of his brother Kapil, reported the same incident on 24.06.2024. He said that on June 24, 2024, at around 2:50 AM, he booked a ride from Sector-67 Mohali to Banur through the Indrive app. He got three youths from Sector-67 Mohali in his taxi and left for Banur. When he reached Sector-104 Mohali, a little behind Landra-Banur Road, the young man sitting on the rear seat tied his arms with a cloth and the young man sitting next to him grabbed him by the neck. In this incident, the car-borne passengers fled away with his car, mobile phone and cash. In this case, FIR No. 206 dated 24-06-2024 u/s 379B was registered at Police Station Sohana against the unknown accused.

 

Dr Garg, giving further details, said that considering the importance and seriousness of both cases, an investigation team was formed under the supervision of Harbir Singh Atwal, SP (Urban) and Harsimrat Singh, DSP (Investigation) and led by the Incharge Inspector CIA staff Mohali

Harminder Singh. Working on scientific and human intelligence, three accused from Amarveer Colony, Hisar, Agarsen Dharamshala, (Near Bus Stand Pehova), Haryana were arrested on 26-06-2024 and one accused from Village Wazirabad, Rajpura on 27-06-2024. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had downloaded the Indrive app by using a fake SIM card number and had created an Indrive account in the name of Vijay with a fake name, from which they had booked these two taxis and carried out the snatching incidents.

 


Those arrested have been identified as Rohit Sharma son of Vijendra Sharman resident of village Deon (near the bus stop), police station Sadar Bathinda, Manpreet Singh alias Mannu alias Giani son of Jasvir Singh resident of Guru Nanak Basti village Kotha Guru police station Bhakta, district Bathinda, Yogesh Thakur alias Yuvi son of Subhash Chand resident of village Phulo Mithi, police station Sangat Mandi, district Bathinda and Ramandeep Singh alias Mann son of Rajinder Singh resident of village Wazirabad, near NRI Kothi, Police Station, Banur District, Patiala, from whom the Xcent car on which the accused had affixed a fake number plate and an Aura Hyundai (temporary number) and both mobiles (snatched) were recovered. The court has remanded the four accused on a four-day Police remand for further interrogation.
