Jalandhar : In a significant operation, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police dismantled an international drug trafficking gang, seizing 3 kilograms of opium in commercial quantities. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma revealed that three individuals involved in smuggling and packaging opium for overseas distribution have been arrested.
The operation began on November 24, when the CIA team apprehended Chahat, a resident of New Sant Nagar, Bhargo Camp, Jalandhar, at Mata Rani Chowk, recovering 1 kg of opium. This led to the registration of an FIR (No. 114) under the NDPS Act at Bhargo Camp Police Station. Interrogation of Chahat exposed two accomplices, Pawan Kumar and Ranbir Singh, who were arrested the same day with an additional 2 kg of opium.
The gang reportedly packaged drugs for international smuggling. Section 29 of the NDPS Act has been added to the case, and investigations are ongoing to trace the network’s links and identify further suspects. Pawan Kumar, with two prior NDPS-related FIRs this year, is the only one with a criminal record among the accused. This operation highlights the Jalandhar Police's commitment to tackling drug trafficking and dismantling organized crime in the city.
