CHANDIGARH: In a powerful display of climate commitment and regional leadership, seven passionate environmental advocates from North India (Chandigarh, Haryana & Himachal) were inducted as certified Climate Reality Leaders at The Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training, held in Delhi on April 2025. This transformative training, organized by The Climate Reality Project, brought together emerging leaders from across the country to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to address the climate crisis with urgency and purpose.

The honoured participants included Amit Joshi, Ripudaman Chopra, Deepak Yadav, Lalit Dogra, Akash Yadav, Sandeep Mittal, Sanjeet Gautam, Jagan Thakur, Nitika Singla, Gurpreet Choudhary. Each successfully completed the rigorous training and was awarded the prestigious Green Pin, a globally recognized symbol of their commitment to climate action, grassroots mobilization, and sustainable advocacy.

The Climate Reality Project, founded by Nobel Laureate and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, is a global initiative aimed at building a corps of leaders who can effectively communicate the realities of climate change and inspire action through data-driven storytelling and local initiatives.

Adding a valuable dimension to the training experience, Dr. Vivek Trivedi, an esteemed Climate Reality Leader who was personally trained by Mr. Al Gore in 2009 in Melbourne, Australia, served as a Mentor at the Delhi session. His mentorship provided the cohort with deep insights into long-term climate leadership and practical strategies for sustained community engagement.

Dr. Trivedi is also the driving force behind the evolution of the Association of Professional Social Workers and Development Practitioners (APSWDP), a multi United Nations agencies affiliated and linked platform that now includes a team of young, dynamic climate leaders from diverse sectors. Under his leadership, APSWDP has become an active voice in advocating and addressing climate-related challenges at both policy and grassroots levels in voluntary capacity.

“The Climate Reality Training reaffirms the urgency of climate action at the grassroots level. It offers not just knowledge, but a global fellowship of changemakers. Receiving the Green Pin is more than recognition it’s a call to act with purpose and persistence.”

With their induction, the participants join a global network of over 50,000 Climate Reality Leaders spanning more than 170 countries and 18 Climate Reality Leaders in Chandigarh. So far since 2009. As part of this movement, each leader will undertake ‘Acts of Leadership’, which include climate education, community engagement, policy advocacy, and implementation of sustainable practices in their respective regions.

As newly certified Climate Reality Leaders, these individuals are now poised to play an instrumental role in driving climate consciousness and catalysing action aligned with the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and India’s national climate commitments.
