Himachal

Leader of Opposition and defeated Jairam Thakur no longer providing next date for Govt collapse

July 17, 2024 04:53 PM

Shimla: Naresh Chauhan, a senior leader and vice president of the Congress Party, expressed gratitude to the state's informed citizens and voters for the significant victory in the recent by-elections held in nine assembly constituencies of the state, where Congress won six seats.

In a press conference held in Shimla, Naresh Chauhan stated that the aware public has given a clear message to the BJP that any conspiracy to topple a democratically elected government will not succeed. The people of the state have sent a strong message through their votes that such politics will not be accepted in the country and the state. In a democracy, public opinion must always be respected.

Chauhan thanked Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur, noting that after the election results, Thakur did not provide another date for the government's fall. He expressed hope that Thakur would learn from the by-election defeat and play a positive role as the opposition leader.

Chauhan mentioned that legislator Sudhir Sharma is overly enthusiastic after his victory and is surpassing BJP leaders. Sharma has been meeting with BJP's national leaders separately in Delhi.

Naresh Chauhan highlighted that after the by-elections, the number of Congress legislators in Himachal has reached 40. He stated that the public did not favor BJP's politics, and their dreams of toppling the government have been shattered. The BJP attempted to topple the majority government, but the decision went to the public court, and the public favored Congress, giving a mandate for a strong government once again.

He noted that the people elected 40 Congress legislators in 2022, and the number has now reached 40 again. Chauhan also criticized the BJP's conspiratorial policies, mentioning that six legislators became Agniveers due to these policies. He emphasized that there is now a leadership struggle within the BJP, with Sudhir Sharma meeting Delhi BJP leaders without informing the state BJP leadership, which should be a concern for Jairam Thakur and Rajiv Bindal.
