PGI seeks Public Cooperation amid Outsourced Workers’ Strike

August 08, 2024 04:41 PM

Chandigarh: Amid the ongoing strike by over 4000 outsourced workers herein PGIMER, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER sought for public cooperation as he urged, “PGIMER deeply appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation during this challenging period. We are committed to minimizing the impact on patient services and ensuring that care is not compromised. Our primary concern is patient care, and we will go to great lengths to ensure it remains uninterrupted. However, public support is crucial to maintaining smooth operations.”

Expressing profound concern over the impact of the strike on patient services, Director PGIMER said, “This strike is both unethical and uncalled for, given the essential nature of our services. As a premier tertiary healthcare institute serving patients from over seven states, PGIMER's role as a critical care provider cannot be overstated. The strike, unfortunately, threatens to disrupt patient care services where many depend on PGIMER as their last port of call for complex medical issues.”

Prof. Lal further elaborated on the measures being undertaken to contain the situation, “In response to the situation, PGIMER is implementing several measures to mitigate the impact on patients. The administration strongly urges the public to utilize online registration services where possible. Regular staff members have been mobilized, and 37 dedicated volunteers from Project Sarathi and many more from NGOs Vishav Manav Ruhani Kendra and Sukh Foundation are assisting in maintaining operations. We also call upon other NGOs to join us in this effort to support patient care.”

Due to the strike of the security staff, we request our patients and their attendants to exercise patience and maintain self-discipline, especially in matters of parking and queuing. While we are making every effort to ensure that OPD, Emergency, and Trauma services remain unaffected, there may be temporary disruptions in elective surgeries, the Director further stated.

Seeking cooperation from public, the Director reiterated, “We are committed to maintaining patient care and are working hard to minimize disruptions. Your continued support is crucial to ensuring that our services run smoothly and that patient care remains our top priority."
