Neglect by Authorities Leads to Destruction of Fruit Plants at Lala Karam Chand Farm

Kharar: The negligence of government authorities is causing severe damage to the fruit plants at the renowned Lala Karam Chand Bansal farm, located in the village of Khanpur along the Kharar-Kurali road. Due to poor infrastructure planning, water accumulates during the monsoon season, leading to severe flooding that is slowly destroying pear, guava, and other fruit trees across 4-5 acres of this well-known farm.

The root of the problem dates back to the widening of the Kharar-Kurali road. While the road was expanded, no drainage system was established on the right-hand side of the road, causing rainwater to collect in front of the farm. This accumulated water seeps into the farm, stagnating for extended periods and leading to the decay of the fruit trees.

The farm's owner has pointed fingers at the National Highway Authority of India, the Public Works Department, and the local Municipal Council for their failure to address this issue. He expressed appreciation for Kharar SDM Gurmander Singh, who had earlier convened a meeting with officials from these departments, insisting that the problem be resolved urgently. However, the farm owner criticized the inefficiency of the lower-level officials, which has left the issue unresolved.

The situation also raises health concerns. The owner pointed out the contradiction between the administration's extensive dengue prevention campaigns and the reality of stagnant, dirty water covering 4-5 acres, which is a potential breeding ground for disease.

In response to the situation, SDM Gurmander Singh has assured that a meeting with all relevant departments will be held within the next few days to seek a resolution.

This farm is historically significant, having hosted visits from several Punjab Chief Ministers, foreign dignitaries, senior officials, and political leaders over the past decades. Notably, renowned scientist Dr. M.S. Randhawa had also planted saplings in this esteemed garden.
