CHANDIGARH: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, celebrated International Literacy Day with a Quiz and a session on Farming as a Career for Women. QUEST, the Quiz Committee of the college, under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, organised an Inter-college GK Written Quiz.
More than 65 enthusiastic students participated in this activity which spanned across diverse streams of knowledge, such as history, geography, sports, current affairs, economy, polity, art, literature and cinema and science and environment. Navkiran Chouhan, Anjali, Prabjot Kaur Saini and Ekum Dhillon bagged the top positions.
The winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes. The NSS units and Women Development Cell organised a session on ‘Farming as Career for Women in Contemporary Society’ by Dr. Vinod Kumar, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, Panjab University. The session was an engaging one wherein the resource person impressed upon the fact that farming, especially organic farming, is a lucrative career option and women need to come forward to adopt it as their career to make a difference in today’s world.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava expressed appreciation for the efforts of the organising Committees to promote the cause of literacy. Highlighting the significance of literacy, Dr. Bhargava said that it not only empowers individuals but also works at macro level by improving nation’s economic performance, reducing inequality, and bringing about greater social cohesion.
