DelhI Medical Association submits memorandum to Delhi Police addressing rising cases of violence against doctors

New Delhi : A delegation from the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) met Sanjay Arora, Commissioner of Delhi Police, on Thursday, to submit a memorandum addressing the rising incidents of violence against the medical professionals, as per a press release.

 

The points discussed include, "Raising awareness among police personnel regarding the Prevention of Violence Against Medical Professionals Act, 2008."


The mandatory provision of institutional FIRs in cases of violence. Establishment of dedicated distress numbers in each district to address violence against healthcare professionals.


"Conducting regular sensitization meetings with police leadership to foster collaboration and protection," DMA stated as per the release.
The delegation of doctors included Alok Bhandari, Prakash Lalchandani, VK Monga, Sunil Singhal and Satish Lamba from the Delhi Medical Association.


On September 9, a female postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.


The incident sparked nationwide protests from doctors and trainees around the country demanding justice for the victim and enhanced security measures for the medical professionals.


Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
