Kapurthala : The procurement of paddy in Kapurthala district has exceeded 75% of the set target of 760983 MT for the current season. As of yesterday, 570140 MT of paddy has been procured from the 574735 MT that arrived at the 78 grain markets.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal stated that procurement is progressing well, thanks to the on-going visits by Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officials from the Mandi Board, Food and Civil Supplies Department, and various procurement agencies.
He mentioned that approximately 25000 MT of paddy is being purchased daily, while lifting occurs at a rate of 23,000 to 25,000 MT per day. Panchal also highlighted that timely payments for the purchased paddy are being ensured; as of now, ₹1,220.8 crore has been disbursed to farmers for procured paddy.
The leading government agency in procurement is PUNGRAIN, which has acquired 207977 MT (36%). Following this, Markfed has procured 178120 MT (31%), PUNSUP 124880 MT (22%), and Punjab State Warehouse Corporation 58293 MT (10%) of paddy.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to continue their visits to the mandis as the procurement process nears completion, ensuring that everything proceeds smoothly.
